Welcome to the “EcoVacuum” website

The purpose of this website is to publicise the findings from an EC Preparatory Study related to the Eco-design of energy using products (EuP) Directive 2005/32/EC for Lot 17 Vacuum Cleaners.

This site will undergo periodic evolution throughout the course of this study, please visit regularly to follow the progress of this study. By registering as a stakeholder, you can stay informed of latest additions to this site and engage in the consultation. Please use Contact Us.

This preparatory study aims to identify and recommend ways to improve the environmental performance of these energy using products throughout their lifetime at their design phase based on the European Commission methodology for Eco-Design of energy using products (MEEuP). The information provided by the study will be used to prepare for subsequent phases, including undertaking an impact assessment on policy options and to prepare a paper for the consultation of the forum. Those phases are to be carried out by the European Commission.

Initially, this study will go through a product category definition stage in order to establish the scope for all subsequent stages of the analysis. This study will identify:

  • Market characteristics for the products
  • Relevant environmental aspects of the products and their technical/economical potential for improvement
  • Existing relevant legislation
  • Self regulation by industry and standards
  • Needs for standards to be developed

Our approach to undertaking this study and planned timescales are detailed in the Project Plan.

The study will require active participation from stakeholders who are willing to contribute. If you would like to be involved in the consultation process, you can do so through the website, responding to questionnaires and/or participation at stakeholder meetings.

  • Documents and reports for consultation can be found in Stakeholders.
